The Carquinez Strait is poppin’! On Monday in Benicia and on Tuesday in Martinez, we saw people get together to strategize how to protect their communities and fight back against the dangerous plans of Big Oil.
Benicia Call to Action: Stop Crude-by-Rail
First, on Monday, Benicians for a Safe and Healthy Community held their first meeting, a “Call to Action” public forum on the dangers of crude-by-rail (which we know so well). It was a great success, attracting over 100 people (including the Mayor) to an informational session at the public library. After hearing the presentation, the standing-room-only crowd was very concerned and supportive of the group’s efforts. In response, Valero has set up their own webpage about their project, inviting people to their own forum about it on Monday the 24th at 6:30pm. RSVP there.
For more about the meeting, read the Benicia Herald’s coverage. The group’s website is http://safebenicia.org/
