Registered Nurses Speak Out Against Doctors Medical Center Closure!

“The fate of DMC will impact not only the residents of West County, but the surrounding communities in your jurisdiction to the East, as well as nearby communities in Alameda County will be impacted if services at DMC are reduced or eliminated. With results of the parcel tax initiative due today, the timeliness of adding this issue to the agenda cannot be seriously questioned. By virtue of our work, we are intimately familiar with the very substantial need for a fully operational acute care hospital to which non-Kaiser members have ready access in the Western region of Contra Costa County.

The threat of closure of the Emergency Department and other critical services provided by DMC in San Pablo and the spiraling decline of healthcare services resulting from the ongoing financial troubles within the WCCHD requires immediate response in order to ensure continuing community access to hospital and healthcare services. ” (continue reading…)

Sign the Petition to Save Doctors Medical Center

Losing Doctors Medical Center would be catastrophic. Without it, countless West Contra Costa County residents will face serious delays in receiving emergency health care during critical moments which is dangerous and potentially life threatening.

Doctors Medical Center in San Pablo is West County’s only full service acute care hospital and public emergency room. It provides nearly 60% of the emergency care in the region and 79% of the inpatient hospital capacity — treating 80,000 patients a year.

Doctors Medical Center can’t be saved without the courage of local activists like you to take a stand and fight for the critical healthcare services your community so desperately needs.

Join the fight and tell Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors:

“Support Doctors Medical Center by taking every step necessary to ensure our community hospital remains open to provide access to the critical healthcare services our community deserves.”

The California Nurses Association is sponsoring a third town hall meeting to discuss the proposed closure of Doctor’s Hospital in Richmond. This is the emergency facility that treated the bulk of the 15,000 citizens adversely effected by the Chevron explosion and subsequent toxic cloud in Richmond nearly two years ago. Kaiser Richmond has suggested that they might close or drastically scale back their emergency room.

Lawsuit Filed – Chevron Refinery Permit to Pollute Exposed

Today Communities for a Better Environment (CBE) filed suit against the Bay Area Air Quality Management District for the District’s illegal permitting of the Chevron
